Unsolicited requests to access your online banking

Unsolicited requests to access your online banking

We've recently received reports of scammers impersonating us, including spoofing our contact phone numbers.

Some of our customers are getting unsolicited calls from the ‘Beyond Bank Fraud Team’ to do one or more of the following:

  • Reset Internet Banking passwords and ask for SMS codes.

  • Ask if customers have made an online purchase within the last hour, then asking for customers' card details so they cancel their cards on their behalf.

Before a call is received, some customers may also receive an SMS appearing to be from one of our common phone numbers such as 13 25 85, 02 8299 9534 or 08 8205 8888, advising that someone from our Fraud or Security team will soon call and to answer the call.

If you receive a call or SMS of this nature, it is a scam. Please do not hand over any personal or financial information. If in doubt, hang up and call us back on 13 25 85

What is spoofing?

Caller ID spoofing is the unauthorised use of a phone number to mislead you about the origin of a call or SMS.  Scammers do this to increase their chances of their calls being answered, and to trick people into thinking they are being contacted by legitimate organisations.

Scammers may spoof our common phone numbers including 13 25 85, 02 8299 9534  or 08 8205 8888. Your phone will automatically group spoofed SMS messages alongside any existing legitimate messages you may have received from us.

Unfortunately, there is little you can do to prevent a scammer calling or messaging you from a spoofed number.

How can you protect yourself?

  • If you receive any messages about your account or transaction activity, do not click on any links. Always sign in securely to check your account by typing beyondbank.com.au into your browser or by using our Mobile App.
